TagVault.org is a non-profit program that was formed under IEEE-ISTO.  This organization is providing tools, services and knowledge to the SAM ecosystem to help move ISO/IEC 19770-2 software tags into the market as quickly and efficiently as possible.

TagVault.org is a non-profit organization formed under the structure of IEEE-ISTO. TagVault.org is a membership driven organization designed to be the registration authority for ISO/IEC 19770-2 software identification tags (SWID tags). TagVault provides a forum for information sharing resources among software publishers, tool providers and SAM practitioners. TagVault will provide a shared library of technical knowledge and software tools including consistent cross-vendor, cross-platform APIs.

Addressing the SAM Challenge

Software asset management (SAM) is difficult and expensive to do well. SAM practitioners have not been provided with the tools and information they need to be successful. Difficulties identifying installed software and tracking utilization are costly to both software publishers and their customers, who struggle to manage all of the software deployed throughout their organization.

TagVault.org was formed to address the issues facing SAM practitioners today, and to continue driving changes in the market that will make SAM processes much easier to implement and manage.

TagVault.org has already developed certification requirements for software identification tags (SWID tags), has defined a conforming definition for digitally signed tags to include authoritative timestamps, and created a utility to create validate and digitally sign SWID tags.  They have delivered the first certified tag to Symantec - one of the founding members of the organization.  Any TagVault.org certified software tag can be authoritatively validated by any 3rd party organization due to the fact that certified tags are signed with a digital certificate that is certified by VeriSign.

The organization is setup as a non-profit organization and was founded by Symantec, CA and ModusLink OCS. 

Any software publisher who wants to provide value to their organization, as well as their customers and partners, is encouraged to join TagVault.org and start publishing certified SWID tags with their product releases!
