This is the last distributed copy of the draft ISO/IEC 19770-2 standard, " Information technology - Software asset management - Part 2: Software identification tag". We have approval to submit our final working draft as the final committee draft (FCD) for voting by national bodies. This final distribution period is designed to allow users and organizations the opportunity to validate that the final editorial review has not negatively changed the context of the document. A summary of the changes to this working draft is provided at the end of this foreword.
Download your copy now! The validation period will last from August 25, 2008 to September 19, 2008. After September 22, 2008, the draft will go into ISO/IEC copyright lockdown and you will not be able to obtain a copy unless you are formally involved in the standards making process. For detailed questions and answers about this distribution, please see the Q&A article on this web site.
Development team The OWG is made up of SAM practitioners, SAM consultants, SAM tool providers, SAM service providers and software manufacturers. Even with such a diverse group and the wide variety of differing requirements, we were able to come together as a community and find a way to create a standard that meets everyone's needs – this speaks volumes to the efforts of the team! Without the individual commitment and hard work of these volunteers, this standard would not have progressed as quickly as it has. The following individuals have been working tirelessly on the standard (sub-committee leads are highlighted in bold):
The last editorial updates of the standard were done with a lot of help from Krzysztof ("Chris") Baczkiewicz and Marcin Jaworski from Eracent as well as David Bicket, convener of WG21. The entire team has put a significant effort into the development of this standard. I'm delighted to have been involved the development of this standard and in working with a team that has been able to look past individual differences and create a specification of enduring value.
