John Tomeny of Sassafras Software is the convener of the other working group (OWG) that will be working on the next SAM standard to help the SAM ecosystem.  This standard, 19770-3 is focused on providing standardized software entitlement tags that can be provided by software publishers and resellers and used by SAM practitioners.  The intent of the 19770-3 standard is to provide a well defined and structured data model for software license entitlements that can help automate the software compliance processes of organizations.

The distribution of ISO/IEC 19770-2 has been completed and a few final edits are being completed.  The standard will be submitted as a final committee draft by early October 2008 at the latest.  More information on the various activities going on around this standard as well as deails of the expected progress of the standard will be presented at the same time as the standard is submitted as a final committee draft.

			<title>Microsoft's SAM Optimization Model</title>

Microsoft has created and announced the SAM Optimization Model to help organizations assess their current SAM programs and to set goals for future program improvements.  This model is based on the ISO/IEC 19770-1:2006 standard and is a stepping stone to conformance with that standard.  The details of the program will be presented in more detail at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference the week of July 7, 2008.


Agnitio Advisors has created assessment tools and a whitepaper for Microsoft&amp;#39;s SAM Optimization Model and will be providing support for organizations who wish to assess their optimization levels prior to doing a software license review with Microsoft.
